St. Patrick's Day decorations to make at home

No need to chase rainbows for the perfect St. Patrick’s Day décor—these creative ideas are easy to pull off.

Felt shamrocks

A classic symbol of luck, felt shamrocks make adorable decorations for garlands, table settings or even as little charms to pin onto coats and bags. Cut out three or four-leaf shapes from green felt, stitch the edges and add a button or embroidery detail in the centre for extra charm. Attach to twine or scatter them around for a festive touch.

St. Patrick's Day candle

Set the mood with a handmade candle featuring a festive St. Patrick's Day twist. Use green wax or a fresh scent like mint, eucalyptus or Irish moss. The label is where you can have some fun—try "Burning Bright Like a Lucky Charm" or "Light This for Instant Irish Luck." A perfect décor piece or thoughtful gift.

"A good friend is like a four-leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have."

Four-leaf clover wax melts.

If candles aren't your thing, four-leaf clover wax melts are a great way to fill your home with a fresh scent. Use a silicone clover-shaped mould and mix in scented oils like cedarwood or bergamot and patchouli for a rich, earthy aroma. Add gold mica powder or dried chamomile for a sprinkle of "magic”.

Paper clover wreath

A stylish wreath instantly adds festive flair to your front door or mantel. Cut out clover shapes from green and gold cardstock, then layer them onto a wreath base for a full, textured look. For extra charm, add glitter details, a lucky horseshoe cutout or a ribbon bow in classic Irish colours.

Shamrock garland

A shamrock garland is a simple way to dress up your space. Here's how:

  1. Cut card stock into strips 5mm wide and 160mm long (allow 5 strips per clover).
  2. Fold 4 strips in half and secure into a heart shape with a dot of glue.
  3. After you half your 4 hearts, glue those together into the clover shape.
  4. With the last strip of paper, fold into a stem shape and glue in-between two of the hearts.
  5. Repeat steps as many times as you’d like…more shamrocks will equal longer garland.
  6. Glue clovers together to create your garland or hang them individually!

Stuffed fabric hearts

Give a handmade touch to gifts or your space with these cosy stuffed fabric hearts. Use tartan, polka dots or shamrock-printed fabric, and stitch the edges with contrasting embroidery thread. Stuff them with cotton or dried lavender for a subtle scent. Add a ribbon loop so they can be hung on doorknobs, gift bags or even a decorative garland.

Pot of gold

No leprechaun required—this DIY pot of gold is an easy way to add a little sparkle to your St. Patrick’s Day décor. Achieve this super cute look in three easy steps:

  • Paint a small cauldron or flower pot black.
  • Use some craft glue around the rim of the pot, and dust with gold glitter (bonus points for tackling the four-leaf clover!).
  • Fill it with gold foil-wrapped chocolates, chocolate coins or Ferrero Rochers for a festive (and edible) centrepiece.

Balloon rainbow arch

If you really want to go all out, a balloon rainbow arch is the ultimate showstopper. Inflate balloons in rainbow colours, varying the sizes for texture. Attach them to a curved wire or balloon strip, starting with red and working through to violet. Place a gold pot (or two) at the base for an extra treat!

Luck of the Irish table confetti

A simple way to make any table look festive? Scatter shamrock confetti in different shades of green, mixing in gold glitter circles or tiny paper rainbows. For an extra flourish, use a hole punch to cut mini clovers from metallic card stock. Trust us, they look really striking on dinner tables, party setups or bar carts.

Green pom pom garland

Soft, fluffy and full of festive charm, a green pom pom garland is a more durable alternative to paper decorations. String together pom poms in different shades of green, or mix in white and gold for contrast. Drape it over a mantel, doorway or party table for a playful, textured St. Patrick’s Day accent.
